THULIUM LASER – NEW AT SIMPLY BEAUTY
What is a thulium laser?
The thulium laser is a state-of-the-art, non-ablative fractional laser using a wavelength of 1927 nm. This technology combines the effectiveness of deep skin remodelling with exceptional gentleness and a short recovery time. Unlike classic ablative lasers, such as CO₂, the thulium laser does not damage the skin’s surface but works in the middle layers of the epidermis and dermis, stimulating natural regenerative processes.
The energy of the laser light is absorbed primarily by water in skin cells, causing controlled thermal micro-damage. In response, the skin begins an intensive repair process—creating new collagen and elastin fibres, improving its structure, firmness, and tone.
The effects of thulium laser therapy include:
rejuvenated, firmer, and more elastic skin
lightening discolorations and evening out skin tone
wrinkle smoothing
pore tightening
improved skin structure and density
What is a thulium laser and how does it differ from similar devices on the market?
The thulium laser is one of the latest technological advancements revolutionising modern aesthetic medicine. The secret lies in the laser’s operation, characterised by high precision and, at the same time, gentleness to the skin.
The device emits a non-ablative beam of light with a wavelength of 1927 nm, which works seamlessly both on the surface and in the deeper layers of the skin. During the treatment, thousands of micro-channels are created in a controlled manner, surrounded by healthy tissue. This specific wavelength makes the thulium laser ideal for treating a variety of skin problems, such as discoloration, scars, unevenness, acne and ageing lesions, as well as alopecia.
Its action is based on stimulating the body’s natural regenerative processes, such as collagen production. It minimises the risk of side effects, and its exceptional precision eliminates the possibility of damage to healthy tissue.
Compared to other laser devices available on the market, the thulium laser stands out for its superior precision and its suitability for use on people with various skin types, as well as its minimal risk of post-treatment irritation. Treatments based on this innovative technology allow for the treatment of problems that were previously difficult to address using traditional methods.
Thulium laser therapies do not damage the stratum corneum, making them less invasive and shortening recovery time, which makes them an attractive option for patients. This device sets new standards in aesthetic medicine, offering lasting and visible results in the treatment of various skin problems and hair regeneration.
The thulium laser is the gold standard for people who want to achieve a refreshed, brightened, and rejuvenated skin effect but cannot afford a long break from their daily lives.
What are the capabilities of the thulium laser?
The broad spectrum of action of the thulium laser makes it one of the most desirable devices in modern aesthetic medicine practices.
One of its main indications is the treatment of androgenic alopecia and alopecia areata. Thanks to its ability to stimulate the regeneration of hair follicles and improve circulation in the scalp, treatments support hair regrowth and reduce hair loss. This is a breakthrough therapy for people struggling with severe hair loss of various causes.
Another application of the thulium laser is the reduction of skin discoloration. The device is excellent for removing pigmentation changes such as sun spots, melasma, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, restoring a uniform and healthy skin tone. By reaching the deep layers of the skin and facilitating the penetration of active substances, the thulium laser lightens discolorations while improving skin density and texture.
Thulium laser treatments are also effective in reducing scars and removing stretch marks. By stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, the device smooths acne, trauma, and surgical scars, and reduces the appearance of stretch marks. The treatment results in visibly smoother and firmer skin that looks younger and healthier.
In addition to treating specific skin problems, the thulium laser is excellent for improving the overall condition of the skin and combating the signs of ageing. It is recommended for smoothing fine lines and wrinkles and restoring the skin’s radiant appearance. It can also increase skin elasticity and rebuild skin thickness, minimising sagging and loss of volume in the facial contour.
Indications:
acne scars
fine wrinkles
large pores
epidermal melasma
skin tightening
abnormal skin texture
freckles
age spots – rejuvenation effect
post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
skin toning (whitening)
hair growth stimulation
stretch mark treatment
What does a thulium laser treatment look like?
A thulium laser treatment can be divided into several key stages that ensure effectiveness and minimise the potential risk of side effects.
Before the treatment, the specialist conducts a medical interview with the patient, allowing them to rule out contraindications to laser therapy and assess the skin’s condition. Individual needs are also discussed, which determines the appropriate treatment parameters.
The treatment itself begins with a thorough cleansing of the skin of all impurities. Then, depending on the area being treated, an anaesthetic is applied to minimise discomfort. Approximately 20 minutes after the anaesthetic is applied, the procedure begins.
The treatment lasts from 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the area being treated. The therapist applies the thulium laser head to the selected skin areas, delivering a series of controlled pulses. During this time, the emitted light beams reach the deeper layers of the skin, stimulating cell regeneration and collagen production.
Patients may experience a slight warmth or tingling sensation. There is no long-term recovery period after the treatment, although the skin may show slight redness or swelling, which subsides within a few hours. It is crucial to follow all post-treatment skincare instructions.

What effects can you expect after a thulium laser treatment?
One of the most noticeable effects is the improvement in overall skin condition. After just one session, patients notice smoothing of fine wrinkles, even skin tone, and improved firmness. By stimulating collagen and elastin production, the skin becomes more elastic and radiant, and minor imperfections are visibly reduced.
The thulium laser is excellent at reducing discoloration caused by UV radiation, melasma, and inflammation. A well-planned laser treatment helps lighten pigmentation spots, restoring the skin’s uniform and healthy appearance.
The thulium laser can also remove acne, surgical, and traumatic scars, rebuilding damaged tissue. Its intensive regenerative action minimises the appearance of stretch marks and restores skin firmness and elasticity.
The thulium laser offers spectacular results in the treatment of androgenetic alopecia and alopecia areata. Its precise light improves microcirculation in the skin, increasing the supply of nutrients to hair follicles. This gradually slows down hair loss and stimulates follicles to begin growing new, stronger hair. The best results are visible after a series of treatments, although many patients notice improvement after just a few weeks.
Differences between fractional CO₂ laser and thulium laser
Both lasers operate on the same principle—creating microscopic points in the skin that stimulate renewal, leaving behind healthy tissue fragments that accelerate the healing process. However, they differ in method of action, depth of penetration, and level of interference with the epidermis.
1. Technology and Mechanism of Action
The fractional CO₂ laser uses a wavelength of 10,600 nm and works ablatively, removing microscopic fragments of the epidermis and causing tissue vaporisation. This results in strong skin remodelling but also intense irritation and a longer healing period.
The thulium laser operates at 1927 nm and is non-ablative—it does not damage the skin surface but acts primarily in the epidermal-dermal layer. Laser energy is absorbed by water in the cells, leading to controlled tissue heating and initiation of regenerative processes. The skin begins to produce new collagen and elastin, regaining firmness, radiance, and smoothness, without the risk of burns or prolonged exfoliation.
2. Depth of Effect
The CO₂ laser works very deeply, reaching the dermis, which produces powerful results but increases the risk of irritation and slower healing.
The thulium laser works more shallowly, precisely where most ageing and discoloration processes occur, preventing epidermal damage while still stimulating intensive renewal.
3. Healing Time and Recovery
After CO₂ laser treatment, the skin requires approximately one week to fully heal, with severe redness, swelling, and visible peeling.
With the thulium laser, recovery is much shorter—usually 1 to 3 days. The skin may be slightly pink and mildly peeling, but patients can return to daily activities the next day.
4. Effects
The fractional CO₂ laser is highly effective for deep wrinkles, acne scars, and stretch marks.
The thulium laser is ideal for rejuvenation, brightening, evening skin tone, reducing discoloration, tightening pores, and improving firmness and elasticity. The effects are more natural and subtle, with healthier, younger-looking, radiant skin and minimal irritation.
